MOT (Class 7)
Larger vans, 3,000kg to 3,500kg — the size most test centres turn away.
Service Description
(Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Late arrival may result in your appointment slot being forfeited.) Class 7 is the one that's harder to find. It covers goods vehicles between 3,000kg and 3,500kg: long-wheelbase Sprinters, jumbo Transits, Crafters, Boxers, Ducatos, Movanos and Masters. Luton bodies and box vans come in here, and so do the larger motorhomes. Plenty of test centres are approved for Class 4 and stop at three tonnes. If you've rung round and been told your van is too big, that's the reason, not the van. Not sure which you are? It goes on gross weight, meaning what the van is plated to carry fully loaded rather than what it weighs on the day. The figure is on the plate inside the driver's door pillar. Between 3,000kg and 3,500kg is Class 7. Under 3,000kg is Class 4, which we also test. The result goes onto the DVSA database the same day and can be checked at gov.uk with nothing but the registration. We're at Unit 12, West Station Yard, straight off Spital Road — a working estate with several vehicle businesses on it, so head for Unit 12 rather than the first open shutter.
