MOT (Class 4)

(Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Late arrival may result in your appointment slot being forfeited.) This is the ordinary MOT. If you drive a car, it's this one. Class 4 covers cars, taxis, pickups, 4×4s and people carriers with up to eight passenger seats, plus any van or goods vehicle rated under 3,000kg. Campervans and the smaller motorhomes come under it too. Not sure? It goes on gross weight, meaning what the vehicle is plated to carry fully loaded rather than what it weighs on the day. The figure is on the plate inside the driver's door pillar. Under 3,000kg is Class 4. Between 3,000kg and 3,500kg is Class 7, which we also test. The result goes onto the DVSA database the same day and can be checked at gov.uk with nothing but the registration. We're at Unit 12, West Station Yard, straight off Spital Road. It's a working estate with several vehicle businesses on it, so head for Unit 12 rather than the first open shutter.
